Getting started

How do I add a song?

On the Songs tab, tap Add Song. Enter the title and artist, then paste the lyrics, or search for them online from the same screen. Stage Proof splits the lyrics into sections like Verse, Chorus and Bridge, and keeps any chords written above the lines.

Can I import a lot of songs at once?

Yes. You can import a whole YouTube or Spotify playlist, a PDF setlist, or plain text, and Stage Proof creates a song for each one. You can also open a .stageproof file a bandmate sent you.

Can I edit lyrics on my computer?

Yes. Open stage-proof.de/connect on your computer and scan the code with the app. Your edits sync back to the phone.

Practice

How does Practice work?

You type the first letter of every word in a line, and Stage Proof checks the line against the song. Every session runs the song twice: once with the first word of each line as a head start, then cold. Lines you miss come back at the end of the run, right after the line that leads into them.

What does the mastery percentage mean?

Every line needs two clean answers to count as learned, and the ring shows how much of the song you have learned. A miss never takes progress away; it marks the line to come back to.

When is a song stage-ready?

When you run the whole song without a mistake, it graduates. Your setlists and the song list then show it as ready.

I made a typo. Does that count as a mistake?

Usually not. Stage Proof forgives a slip onto the key next to the right one, and letters with or without accents count the same.

Backing tracks and chords

How do I add a backing track?

Open a song and tap Add Backing Track. Pick an audio or video file from Files, a video from Photos, or find one online. Files stay on your device; nothing is uploaded.

What is Generate from Chords?

If a song has chords, Stage Proof can make a backing track from them: piano, guitar, pads, bass and drums, timed to the lyrics. It works in 4/4, 3/4 and 6/8, in any key. The feature is in Beta.

A chord in the generated track comes in at the wrong time. Can I fix it?

Yes. Tap Listen, then tap the chord that sounds off and set its length. Every chorus written the same way follows your fix.

Can I play along with a metronome instead?

Yes. The metronome can pulse on screen or click out loud. It is an alternative to a backing track, so it doesn't play under one.

On stage

What are the display modes?

There are four. Full shows all lyrics with chords, Cues shows only the first words of each line, Sections + Cues adds the section names, and Sections shows section names only, for songs you know cold.

How does Smart Scroll work?

Tap the scroll control until it reads Smart. Stage Proof listens through the microphone and follows your singing and playing, keeping the line you're on in view. If it drifts, tap the line you're on and it picks up from there. Auto scrolls at a steady speed instead; drag the control up or down to change the speed.

Can I change the key?

Yes. Tap the key badge at the top of the song and transpose up or down. The whole chart changes with it.

Recording a take

How do I record myself?

Open a song with a backing track and tap the microphone button. Choose Audio or Audio & Video, set the voice, music, reverb and compression, and start recording. Afterwards you can keep the take, record it again, share it or delete it.

Why does it say headphones are required?

Without headphones the backing track plays from the speaker and bleeds into the microphone. Use wired headphones or a USB audio interface. Bluetooth headphones don't work for recording: their delay pulls the mix out of time.

Gigs and your library

How do I build a setlist?

On the Gigs tab, create a gig, give it a name and a date, and add songs from your library. Put them in order and see at a glance which songs are ready. On the night, tap a song to open it on stage.

How do I delete a song?

On the Songs tab, touch and hold the song, then choose Delete.

Can I share songs with my band?

Yes. Export your library, with lyrics, chords, backing tracks and setlists, as one .stageproof file and send it by AirDrop, message or email. You can also share a single song, or export its sheet as a PDF.

Your data

Where is my data stored?

On your device. Songs, progress, recordings and backing tracks stay on your phone. If iCloud Backup is on, they are included in your device backup.

Does Stage Proof send my singing anywhere?

Only for Smart Scroll. To follow your singing it uses Apple's speech recognition, which can send audio to Apple for processing. Recordings you make are never uploaded.
